Lamp burst in Durst M605 Enlarger when switching on RHdesigns Analyser Pro.

Hi,

I have encountered a problem, when setting up a new RHdesigns Analyser Pro with a Durst M605 enlarger.

The moment I switched on the Analyser pro, that was connected to the enlarger, the lamp burst directly.

The lamp I used was of the brand "OSRAM 64627 100W / 12V XENOPHOT HLX"


Something else i remarked was that neither the enlarger nor the safelight had a brown earthing cable, which is necessary to add into the plugs that fit the Analyser.

Does someone has an idea where this might come from and how to resolve this issue?
Before I never had a problem with the lamp and the Durst enlarger.

Is this a colour head M605, with transformer or the condenser head? The B/W head uses a mains voltage bulb, and you'd have to go some to burst that.

My M605 B/W is two-wire and classed as double insulated (one square inside another symbol).

My (old) Analyser Pro switches the enlarger at utility voltage. If you wired a 12V bulb to that, I would expect it to fail in some way.

Thx for your response. But there's lot i don't understand.
I bought this Durst M605 enlarger some time ago. It's a color head with the 3 filters. That i'm sure. I use it for B/W.

I honestly don't know if my Durst has condenser head?

That doesn't sound good. The analyser switches mains voltage. Your enlarger lamp runs at 12V, not mains voltage. That's why it exploded: you gave it 230V, which is roughly 20x the voltage it's made for.

You're supposed to connect the transformer to the switched outlet of the analyser and the enlarger to the transformer.

So to clarify: the connection between the transformer and the enlarger should remain like it was before you got the analyser. Don't cut or interrupt this connection.
The transformer plugs into the analyser instead of a wall socket.

Thank you soo much for your helpful advice.

I have one more question.
With my Durst M605 enlarger, I use an electronic-timer. (Baeuerle B 782),which is a normal timer.

Should I still use it together with the Analyser pro or not?
And where to attach it to, so where i put it??

To the best of my knowledge, the analyzer pro is a meter-timer that integrates baseboard metering in a (fancy) timer. When using the analyzer pro, there's no more need for the Bauerle.

I assume your analyzer pro came with a manual; I'd suggest to study it thoroughly!

Yikes!
Even if the enlarger has a transformer, it will switch on instantly when powered.
Now I'd be pretty scared to see the wiring job...
Make sure you correctly splice-back the wires and use some shrink-tube to complete the job.
I hope you didn't cut the wire too close to the transformer or else you're going to have a heck of a time putting it back together.

Yes! This is how it is supposed to work.

If you had it connected like this when you first switched on the analyer and the bulb died ... nothing to worry about, pure coincidence
