Lady Gaga and Polaroid ?

It is interesting that they put the POLAROID name on the little "pogo" machines. I won't get into detail because they're digital, but they suck. Now they have cheap chinese TVs too. It is great though that they are going to work with IP!
 

Aside from the technical challenges, the Impossible Project needs 2 things to succeed; a large customer base and a new type 600 camera. The current user base can only take you so far. Also, there are only so many potential users who are willing to prowl thrift stores and ebay for their photo gear. Having the current owners of Polaroid Or anyone commit to developing a new 600 camera was necessary to the project's success. IP has done a fine job creating buzz via selling refurbished cameras and expired film through outlets such as Urban Outfitters. Seeing Polaroid dump money into a spokesperson like Lady Gaga is great news. Right now the IP websites (new and old) time out due to server overload.

I have an SX-70 that's waiting for fresh film. If Fuji had the marketing wisdom of the IP, 100BW and the 4x5 products would not be on the chopping block.
 
Two new Polaroid Instant film cameras were introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show today. Both are essentially the same, except the external finish. To those who would bash the Polaroid choice of Lady Gaga, whom do you think they should be working with on reviving the brand?
 

You misspelt "Instant Digital cameras".

No film is involved in the new cameras Polaroid introduced at CES - they are digital cameras with a built-in colour thermal printer (the so-called Zink technology.)

One has a woodgrain and silver finish, and the other is a mostly blue colour. These will work with Polaroid 600 instant film.
 
Meanwhile, this subject is now getting some (unwanted) media exposure Down Under, as per this link.
Particularly striking is the "hat" fashioned entirely out of the said Dame's hair (!). For a hermaphrodite he/she spins a great visual yarn.
The rest of the stuff, though, reads like a joke. If Polaroid is serious (even with a digital revival), it should take a serious snapshot of where it stands signing up Lady GaGa. She is not a photographer.

Polaroid could have signed up somebody from APUG. Why not? Do we not know more about photography, hmm?

Every major media has ran the Polaroid and Lady Gaga story. That's a ton of PR, and it gets people talking about the Polaroid name. Which member of APUG could Polaroid sign up, who would get that much recognition?

Oops, my fault - I thought those ones were announced by the Impossible Project a while ago, didn't realise they were showing them at CES as well.

Mea culpa.
 
I don't know what they're doing, but whatever it is my 14 year old daughter demands that we buy whatever camera they produce no matter what it is.

That's what it's all about. I applaud the new Polaroid management (and the Impossible Project). Create a market by any means necessary! High demand can only mean more selection and lower prices for everyone, including we "serious" photographers.
 
not sure what the problem is ..
she is creating a buzz and helping with sales
good for her, and good for the people who use polaroid-stuff
 
i dont think it's a bad thing, what polaroid is doing. i think its better they get some one who's current and somewhat artistic than a face from the past.
whoever their market, probably listens to her music either way.

every major company has a celeb attached, Apple, Tmobil, Amex
thats the trend
 
I like her songs. Lots of energy.

And I think this is positive for Polaroid. I guess Lady Gaga is interested in the classic Polaroid.
 
awesome. she and her band of artists and designers are doing an amazing job. if instant film can rub some of that gold dust onto its tired, worn sleeve then we all win.
