What is going on in this scene? Who are you and what do you do with your cameras?
I'm new to the forum and I also am fairly new to photography. Although I have had some very cheap cameras in the past, I have a Nikon d3100 with a few lenses now and I love it. So far I have been getting a lot of wildlife and plant photographs. I have done a few portraits of family and friends and I would like to do more of that.
Where do you go to find stories as they are unfolding?
I'm should be in China beginning next month. Will the forum ever have a section for Asia?
Welcome.
We intentionally don't have a "like" function, or anything similar. You can use the "Multi-quote" function to condense many replies into a single post, but generally that is unwieldy for a thread like this. Feel free to Reply whenever and however you wish, if something is worth replying to. The purpose of the site is to encourage meaningful discussion and the exchange of information.
You may wish to start an introductory post in the "Introduce yourself to the Photrio Community" sub-forum found here: https://www.photrio.com/forum/forums/introduce-yourself-to-the-photrio-community.35/
I met a photographer while walking on the trails in the marsh here. She informed me that there is a camera club specifically focused on the marsh and another one that is more general in theme. They can probably be found on Facebook or something, but I didn't bother since I am leaving.
La Crosse Central High School, class of '67 (the last graduating class from the old Central High), formerly known as the Red Raiders, now known as the RiverHawks.
I like to tell people that I never played La Crosse, but I used to live there. It's a beautiful city in a stunning location.
I remember that there was a camera shop downtown many years ago. Now there are just a few cameras for sale at Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Office Depot, etc..
Is there any place to rent photography equipment that you are aware of?

I haven't lived in La Crosse for more than 55 years, so I don't know if there are places to rent photographic equipment. I did buy a film camera at a store downtown when I was in town about 15 or 16 years ago for a high school reunion, though I don't remember the name of the store now.
