L-Bracket for Manfrotto/Bogen Hexagon QR Plate

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but does anybody have an affordable way of achieving an L-bracket for the hexagon QR plate that Manfrotto/Bogen uses on older heads?

Maybe I do not quite understand your issue. But I would take a band-steel, drill respective holes into it and bend it by 90°. At one leg I then would screw on the hex-plate. On the other leg I either would mount the hex quick release socket or, cheaper and lighter, just a tripod screw with a some rubber band on the band-steel.

the only thing I can think of is to start with an arca swiss type L-bracket and drill/tap/screw a hex plate on each side. Because they are just a slot, the arca swiss mount is more conducive to being formed into an L bracket.

Manfrotto sold a QR adapter that could be screwed to anything with a 1/4-20 screw. It would add about 1/2-3/4" in height though.

They were nowhere near this expensive years ago but I guess time passes.

Yeah, that's why I'm looking for a cheap alternative. I bought a cheap piece of L-shaped steel at the hardware store that is just okay, but it doesn't keep everything very stable.

I think there are clones of the Manfrotto camera-plates and of complete tripods. Then there could be clones of the QR-release sockets too.

I needed to do something similar recently, drug out my collection of flash brackets tripod head parts, etc. Finally settled on taking an old pan head, setting it at a right angle, then replaced the handle with a bolt so it wasn't in the way. It was late night at the time, so a hardware store run wasn't an option. B&H has a number of right-angle brackets that fit Arca-Swiss quick release mounts, adapting one so that it could be fastened to a Manfrotto hex plate might be possible. Or else, Manfrotto does have an Arca type QR mount.
I have two Manfrotto heads with hex plates, another Cambo head that has their own QR style, I am seriously considering switching them all to Arca mounts because compatible plates and adaptors are so common for those.
