Hello everyone, I've just got a flash for my Yashica 230AF. I tested it as soon as it arrived using the test button and it appeared to work fine. However I have just tried it again and while the test indicator light is on, showing that it's ready to fire, it will not flash. Ther charicteristic whine of the inverter inside is no longer present and even when mounted on the camera, there is no flash, though the carmera seems to act as if the flash is working fine.

Can anyone advise on this? I had an old agfa flash unit do exactly the same thing a couple of days ago, and I'm loathed to strip is down and start replacing things, especially as the capacitor is still fully charged.

Many thanks, Mike.

It sounds like the trigger coil or flash tube went South. Of the two I'd suspect the TC first.

Why? it's electronic mumbo jumbo and a mystery to me.

Thanks  The tube looks to be ok, so i'll check the trigger coil when i'm more awake. As for why, my other hobby is to mess around and build electronics, and I don't really want to just throw it away and get another one if it's a cheap part that just needs replacing. The number of computers I got that way 5-10 years ago
