Hi everybody, this is my first post!

I'm all new to enlarging and darkroom processing. I have found a setup that covers anything that I would need in my darkroom, including around 600 pieces of photopaper in different sizes.

But the enlarger is an old polish Krokus 3 Color, which the former owner has used for 35mm negatives. I have a Hasselblad 500cm, which i want to get the most out of, and now I was wondering... What lens should i buy for the Krokus to enlarge my 6x6 negatives? And is there anything that should know?

Best regards

Niels Kristian

Hi Neils,

Convention states that the enlarger lens focal length should be the same as the "standard" taking lens, so 80mm for 6x6 negs, 50mm for 35mm etc.

Also check you have the right condensers in the right places and the lamp is adjusted correctly.

thanks for the quick reply Mike!
Will i be able to buy any 80mm, or how do i know what to buy? could you recommend anything? (sorry, but i'm a complete newbee).

I've read something about a recessed lens board(that sould be almost impossible to find), do i need that for the 80mm?

I don't think that you need a recessed lens board.
Do you have any board at all that fits the enlarger?

Well i don't own the enlarger yet, I just found it used on this danish website, where anything ì need to make a darkroom incl. papers etc. is included. I think it's a good bargain, i just wan't to make sure that it will work with 6x6.

price: ~£170

Is it to much?

I am not at all familiar with that particular enlarger but I noticed in the APUG classified an Omega setup with lenses and a list of other darkroom goodies for $175 which might be a guide as to prices.

I suppose that if that setup fits your needs, you could always make an offer. AY you are probably right about prices over here. During a recent trip to New Zealand I noticed the price of a top of the line Nikon digital body. One could take a trip over here and buy the camera and have a vacation at the same time.(I don't own a digital camera)

The ad says that it is a complete darkroom setup. Have you asked the seller what lens is included?
I can't see any lens in the pictures but it is hardly "complete" without one.
Maybe you don't need to look for another (for a while).

I'd also add that the paper included seems to be quite old and it might be fogged.

I have a Krokus 3 for 30 years and it has served me well. I did buy new enlarging lenses to go with it as I shot with 35mm, 6x6 and lately with xpan panoramic. I bought a Durst second hand which I now use for my 35mm work only. I notice that most of the paper on display is graded paper instead of Multigrade, I would be concerned about he age of such paper. If you buy it let me know and I will copy the small handbook for you.

Cheers
Vincent

wow! Thanks TEX! You guys in here are very friendly. He told me that the lens is included, but that the lens has been used to enlarge 35mm film, so it won't fit my needs. That's why I need to find a 80mm that'll fit. What lens exactly do you use for 6x6 TEX?

But do you think it's a bad buy? Should i look for another set on ebay? What would you guys recommend me to buy, and where?

Took a look in my boxes and found one Anaret 80/4.5 and one Schneider-Kreuznach 80/5.6 That are of no use to me.
Both with 25mm thread. I can send you either one if you need (no charge).
