Just an FYI for those who might be interested, or have written me in the past about the "look" of my work, I have an article about some of my methods appearing in the current (sept) issue of Shutterbug.
I was a little nervous when they asked me to write the article. While I've seen my photographs in print many times I had only written one other thing for publication previously (the artists statement in the "Bones" book) so I was a little nervous as to how it would turn out. It took about an hour and a half to write after coming back to my motel room in Lone Pine, having just photographed my "Mount Whitney" image that morning. I think all the writing I've done in threads on APUG and other online forums have bettered my writing skills and I wonder how many other people notice an improvement in their writing skills due to online forums.
congratulations. I've been guessing what methods you used in achiving the look on your pictures and tried few myself so I look forward to your article. I like your work very much,
thank you for sharing.
It's funny that you wonder about forums improving ones writing skills. Once I started writing tutorials for my CG work and posting in different forums I feel like I got better and better. Unfortunately I don't think my spelling has improved. After a while I was asked to write in a few CG and graphic design magazines. So I think all this online stuff actually is an exercise in self improvement. That's what I tell my friends anyway.
Very interesting read. I checked a couple of stores locally and they don't have Sept. yet, but I'll be sure to pick it up just to see the sample pics in print (I don't usually pick up Shutterbug, as the cover articles seem to be mostly digital-centric, but I'll make an exception this time )
