A while back I finished restoring a Korona 5x7. Turned out to be a rather simple job and looks great. Now I have 2 Korona 8x10's that I was planning on giving the same treatment until I found that the pivot for the back tilt appears to be a rivet instead of a screw as in the 5x7. Image043.jpg

If anyone can offer any suggestions (other than removing to bellows, drilling out the rivet and replacing it with something else) I'd apreciate it.

I went to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and found something even better than the binding post. They have a low head shoulder screw that appears to be the same thing I have in my 5x7. That along with a tee nut is all I need. Thanks for the lead!

Btw, is there a way to date a Korona with the serial #? I went to Field Cameras of the U.S. and found a photo of one I have which appears to be a Variation #2. The other one, the one with all the movements is not listed there. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

Hi Ron,
I just purchased a 5x7 Korona V and am now looking for film holders to fit it. Standard size is a bit too large. I'm guessing the originals were metal and single-sided. Any help in locating one or more as the camera is in usable condition. (Gundlach-Manhattan Optical c.1910)
Thanks,
Rick Davis

Ron,
How hard would it be to replace the back on the Korona V with a newer one which would accept traditionally newer film holders? Sorry to interrupt your thread. I am a newbie to this site. Please excuse.

Probably not very.

Perhaps a newer Korona back will fit it. It wouldn't be that strange of them to keep the same body dimensions and just change the back for changing standards.

If that didn't work, almost certainly a back from a korona or another camera could be altered to fit with minimal work like moving fastening pins, slight tablesaw and/or router work.
