Konterring / Counter-ring

My Rodagon enlarging lens came with this piece, but in the 10 years of using the lens I have never figured out what a Konterring does and left it unused:rolleyes:

I think it also says "Jam-ring" on the etui.

Could someone please enlighten me on the use of this ring.

A "Konterring" keeps your lens from falling out of the lensboard. As this obviously hasn't happened for a decade, your lensboard must be threaded.
