Konica FT-1 Motor repair

I acquired an FT-1 for free not to long ago that was in non working condition. I'm in a mood for a project and have decided to attempt to fix it.

The Problem:
1. The lens is stuck on the body the release button does not work.

This is step one in my repair, any idea on how i can get this off? If the camera is toast, I can at least get this lens off for other use.

2. The motor was functioning when I got it, but after a few test shots it died (not dead batteries), I figure I will deal with this next.

3. When it was functioning, with the lens on the aperture was stuck wide open, would not close up when taking shots at any stop. I assume this is related to the lens being jammed on.


Anyone know of a repair manual or similar materials to assist in disassembly?

I have limited experience in camera repair, so this seems like a good chance to learn with low risk. Worst case, I still have a broken camera.

Not sure if you want to spend the money but if you really want it fixed, the ONLY person to fix it is www.webercamera.com. Extremely knowledgeable with Konicas...those are the only cameras he fixes.
If you want to try fixing cameras, you should go the all manual camera route. Unless you have access to electronic testers, it'll be hard to diagnoze a battery dependent camera.

Is the shutter mid-cycle or is the lens correctly installed? That might cause the lens not to release.
Many years ago someone brought a Minolta SRT with a lens installed in the incorrect orientation(about 120 degrees out) into the store I worked at. That was finito on that one.
You couldn't disassemble the lens because you couldn't access the lens mount screws & couldn't attack the body 'cuz the lens covered the screws on the body.
Did cause some laughter & shaking of heads though.

I've worked on full manual cameras before, and have the equipment and knowledge to work on electionics.


John - Shutter is in the stationary position and the lens is installed in the correct orientation. The previous owner had informed me he had the lens removed once by a shop before giving it to me (with it stuck on again). So I suppose there is hope.

Don't know if you've heard of it, but there is a Konica slr group on Yahoo and I think that might be a good place to ask about manuals and information.
