Today was the day I knew was coming. It was always stored in it original sleeve, packed in it's original box complete with foam. It shattered at a drop of about 12" as I pulled it from my jobo bottle.

Ouch! Really sorry to hear that...

When I got mine I carefully removed it from the stainless sheath, polished the steel, cleaned the glass, then remounted it with an appropriate hot glue. Now it lives hanging above the sink on a hook in a protected location.

Since it serves as the darkroom standard it mostly gets used only for instrument comparisons. I keep a calibration chart on the wall for all of the other less expensive thermometers that get used on a daily basis.

I would think about $50 should do the trick for a replacement?

Ken

That's a shame Mate. Lots on ebay though, not much of a consolation, but at least it can be replaced.

My fault for actually using it in my Jobo. Overkill for that.

Sorry to hear that, I can sympathise... I lost two of my "reference" thermometers (not the type 3) in one day because one broke while trying to join the separated column in "too hot" water, and the other slipped out of the sleeve when I reached for it to replace the first.

Ok that's worse. :-O
