I just picked up a Kodak Stack loader for the Carousel and Ektagraphics.

It sounds like a much easier way to deal with slides rather than keeping them in the big wheel trays. Is there any reason to keep my slides in the trays instead of using the stack loader?

Only if you need a well-rounded assortment of pictures.:tongue:

I don't really see a reason to...

The problems with stack loaders are:
  • Not being able to backup
  • Having to put a stack back in order after dropping it - it's a good idea to take a marker and make a diagonal stripe across the stack
  • Repeated un-jamming - the nice thing about the Kodak Carousel system is it very rarely jams
  • Putting more wear on the slide mounts and more fingerprints on the slides
  • Dealing with the mess of lots of little slide boxes
The good points:
  • Showing a box of slides fresh from Dwayne's without having to load a tray
  • Not having to buy and store trays, partly offset by having to buy and store boxes
I use both a stack loader and trays. I keep 'shows' in trays - I no longer subject an audience to a stack loader.

Thanks for the info Nicholas! That all makes sense to me. The carousel trays are cheap around here.. a number of thrift stores have em for $1 each.

I have had one for years. It is ok to check a box or two of slides, but because the slides are not preheated like they would be in a tray, the slides in the stacker pop and change focus while you are watching them. There are good reasons for the Carousel trays.
