Im just at work at the lab at the moment. We thought we ordered in some control strips. Instead we ended getting some SO-016 film which I have no idea what this stuff is. It is under Catalog number 170-9716. Can anyone explain what its for? It comes in 100 foot spools. So what is this stuff?

Just guessing as I have no data sheets at hand:

-) a film to make a projection transparancy from a negative

-) a film to make a 2nd genaration negative [Gen 2...] from a negative
(either by reversal processing or by copying twice and standard processing [Color Neg Film...])

Oh now I remember what it is. I think you are correct. We also found out it is for the stores Portrait Studio, so its not even ours. My question is since when can you use such a film for portraits? Weird.

Copy films are typically given a lower gamma, which could be useful for use as camera film.
But in addition their spectral sensitivity is optimized for the dyes of the original, which makes them less appropriate as camera films.

I have a few waiting to use

I believe it was used to make title slides back in the day. Your would photogrpagh the copy art theough a reverse filter to get the colour that you wanted.

I still have 2 36 exposure 35mm cans in the freezer. The comments about copy film have me thinking about other uses for it.
