Just got some from Calumet yesterday.

I'm going to evict the mice and moths from my F1 and see what it does this weekend, mainly playing with tabletop stuff.

Not here in Canada yet, but Kodak is sending me a couple free rolls to try out in the mean time. I also have an old roll of the Ektar 25 to use, so I'll shoot them both and post the results when I can.

as far as I'm aware it's not actually an original Ektar formula, I believe it's actually from the Ultra Color stable. As to what Ultra Color is, I think it's originally vericolor, but I'm foggy on this point.

I know it's only in 35mm now, but anyone know if there are plans for 120 or 4x5?

Just looking to commiserate. I picked up a brick last tuesday and in my rush to see the results I decided to go with the corner CVS. What a mistake. The machine broke down with my film in it and it sat for more than 24 hours waiting for a tech. "Luck" was with me as I was told the film had not entered the chemicals but when I got the prints back there was a ridiculous cyan cast (and a ridiculous amount of contrast) on the prints. I was told that was because the film must have been out of date. (Good chuckle.) I sent another roll off to a proper lab but won't get it back 'til the end of the week.

I'm loaded up and shot a few test shots today. Maybe I'll finish it up in the course of the week and send it off to A&I, since I have a couple of print film mailers on hand. I'll post when I have results.

Just got a roll back from this last weekend. Mostly family photos. I just processed as usual at Costco and had them scan to CD. The prints look contrasty, but not bad. I cannot tell any difference in grain at 4x6 vs normal consumer 400 print film, but the scans are definitely a lot less grainy than usual, even with their slightly better than sub-par scans you usually get a discount processors. I will have to scan a few on my Minolta tomorrow to see what it really looks like. Blues and reds seem pretty strong in the prints.

I hope Kodak will expand to 120 and even 220. It looks like the answer to using chromes for print work.

Steve.

Steve I mailed Kodak about that this is the reply:
Thank you for your email regarding the Kodak Ektar Film.

Kodak have release the Ektar film to wholesalers and as far as Kodak is aware they are being released out to retailers this month. Please find below a wholesaler who might be able to help you further.

Movie film?

I saw this posted in a thread on photo.net - true or false? I'm totally clueless and have no idea if this even sounds right:

"The new Ektar is a movie film without the "remjet" (removable jet black) anti-halation layer. If anything, it is proof that Kodak is getting out of film. No new still films, just the systematic replacement of the old still line with adapter movie films to lower Kodak's production costs and R&D budget. "

This is totally false. The movie film is made to a different contrast and uses different processing.

It is amazing how many rumors start. They make things up out of thin air, and you can post this on PN to refer to. What a bunch of .......

Wolfeye...I'm on Photo.net and that quote is from yet another "Digital VS Film" argument. So you know the source of that comment. Most people in the forums there are very friendly and helpful. But the problem is that whenever a topic like that gets really active, it starts attracting people from the digital forums. They just wander in to the Film and Processing forums to push digital and make some kind of cynical wisecracks, and then disappear again. You see people who never post topics in the film forums, but then they suddenly jump in whenever there's a Film VS Digital argument.

Don't perpetuate a bogus rumor. Before that stupid argument started, a lot of people on Photo.net were very excited about Ektar 100 and were anxious to get it.

That's why I asked here, not there. And I asked because I wanted the truth. PE has always known what he's talking about, and I personally, believe him, but he offered no more evidence to back up his assertion than the other guy. Both sound plausible to a non-flim expert, and that's how rumors live on, when neither the rumor monger nor its detractors can "prove" their claim to the masses.
