I recently shot a box of 400NC in 8x10 and I got the contacts back yesterday. I'm very impressed with this film, the colours are accurate and neutral, yet opunchy. Sounds like a contradiction doesn't it, but its the best way I can describe it. Normaly I've not a big fan of Kodak negative films in the past, but the new Portra has really impressed me.

These contacts really jump off the page as sharp, smooth, impressive photos. They really make the subject matter look better than it did in person. In the past about the only Kodak film I used was Kodachrome, but now I think I'll be using more Portra.

Craig, Thank you for posting this, i was thinking about buying a box of 400NC 8x10. Really impressed with the new Portras too although in smaller formats so far.
Does anyone know if the 400VC will be made in 8x10?

What paper are your contacts on?

I also fell in love with Portra in 8x10. I highly recommend that everyone get a box just for the hell of it (I just got two last week from B&H). It IS expensive but it is delicious. It will knock you out.

Indeed very nice and "for real" looking. Should have a box by Monday and look forward to try it.
Does most labs contact prints on Endura or is that a special job?
I have obviously very little experience with lab work except for the normal proof prints.

Contact printing of 8x10 is the most common and cheaper than getting enlargements.

Interesting that it was about a year ago that Kodak did the "freebie" offer for the new Portra.

I'm coming to think it's a great film - as do a lot of others here. My usage is 135 and 120 (do they make it in 220?).

Guess they did a good thing with the promo and are starting to "reap the harvest".

Kudos to the Great Yellow Father. After a lot of "issues" with film folk here, I think the folks in Rochester truly deserve a "tip of the hat".

Wasn't really a fan of the Kodak pro negative films and have used Reala and Fuji pro160c mostly.
I have recently tried Kodak 100 and 400 in NC and VC and am very impressed with the neutral colours and flesh tones.
This will be the film of choice for portraits, weddings etc. from now on..... or until Fuji trumps it again!

Yes!

Great challenge, Tony.

Isn't about time we got these two old war horses racing against each other again?

Kodak takes the lead; c'mon Fuji, show us what you can do.

It'd be great to see these companies trying to outdo each other with new film offerings.

We'd all be "winners" then! :D
