Kodak Porta VC 160 - expired in 2007

I picked up a camera at the weekend. It cam with a large stack of Kodak Portra 160 VC film which expired in 2007. I do not know how it has been stored.

What results will it give?

Is it only fit for a Holga, or the bin?

Test it and see. Unless it was stored in extreme (bad) conditions, it should be usable for casual shooting. Maybe shoot it at 200 and/or push it one stop. You could also list it on the classifieds here. Somebody will relieve you of it...

Thats a very desirable film, so even if it doesnt meet your standards, you can sell it on ebay for near retail. Even if you say its not so good.

This is a fine film. You might get some colour shift but often in a nice way. Put one roll through a "real" camera you're used to. And if you don't like it, put the rest through Holga or even better a pinhole camera.

You could also cross proces it as slide film (E6 development).

And if that doesn't work, send it forward to another Apuger for a donation to Apug

I had a stash of 80 rolls of 400NC that were expired in 2002. I rated it 100 and it came out just fine. Do a test roll on a proper camera, shot a series of exposures overexposing by 1, 1.5 and 2 stops, see which comes out best.

Providing that it has been properly stored it will have no problem at all. Give it a stop more light. If it had lost some of its latitude it will come out just fine. If not, it will come out barely brighter than ordinarily.

Here's some I shot that was even older than that. Not sure about wet printing, but there shouldn't be anything wrong (except possible fogging) that you can't easily adjust in a hybrid work flow.

PhotoEngineer said that the purple cast in the shadow area of the first one was due to age. Also, this was my first attempt at home C-41 processing, so God knows what I might have done to it.
