So, I didn't clean out the tub well and I now have yellow stains in the guest bathroom tub. How do I get rid of it? I've had someone say that they have used potassium permangante to remove stains from trays, but I'm worried that would turn my tub purple instead. Anyone else been as sloppy as me and solved this problem?

As I think further about this, it occurs to me that the answer may depend on what the tub is made of. Some materials may have been effectively bleached (colour change will be permanent) while with other materials, the discolouration may just be on the surface, and therefore easily removable.
I'd suggest looking for a cleaner that is designed specifically for the material used in your tub.
Assuming you've already tried the obvious cleaners, lay a paper towel over the stains and soak it with bleach. Walk away and come back in half an hour. You will be amazed at how well this works for any surface than can withstand the bleach.
i agree the mr clean eraser might work but it is an abrasive like ultra fine sandpaper ...
( melamine foam -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine_foam )
i'd be afraid it might remove the finish on your tub.
maybe you should try feldspar like bon ami instead.
it is supposed to not damage the finish to porcelain ...
