Kodak Plus-X Reversal vs Negative Film?

Can Kodak Plus-X Reversal Film be processed as a negative film only, with good results?

I haven't tried PXR, but I did shoot some duPont reversal film some years ago and processed it as a negative using D-76. It worked, and for the most part the negatives came out fine. I did have some problems with blocked highlights and excess contrast, however.
