Has anyone found a replacement for the old Kodak Red Opaque? I used to use it when I worked for a printshop (I did prepress) 20 years ago.

There's a film opaquing pen made, used for the same purpose. I have several at the studio, I'll look who makes it when I'm there tomorrow. Works like a champ, less than $10 and comes with an extra nib as well.

Try the folks that supply your local printers. I am sure thay probaly carry "something" perhaps with their house brand on it.

I believe that the Formulary sells the original opaque using their formulation. You might try calling them.

A good quality water colour paint like Winsor Newton's will do the same job. Red Ochre is the best colour. One thing: dilute it well as the paint has glycerine in it and will not dry well on film if it is too thick.

In the graphic arts there used to be "perfex" opaque. Try looking that up online, they probably made Kodaks anyway.

a company called Windsor and newton make photographic opaque. it is sold in australia. it is a good alternative to Kodaks.
