Hi

Got myself a Kodak Medalist II in a very good condition but with a very stiff lens focusing and shutter sticking. I am guessing CLA is due and old grease needs cleaning and replacing (and shutter possibly needs tuning).

Now in US there are quite a few repair shops that can deal with it - any advice on similar recommended shop in UK that I can trust with my Medalist?

Thanks

Not really. I decided to do it myself. I have two Medalist II each with different issues so I got one perfect from the two and one that needs shutter cleaning and viewfinder adjustments (something wrong with viewfinder dial spring - can't figure it out yet). The service manuals for Medalist are available from Mike Butkus and shutter service manual I shared here.

Not in UK, but right across the pond in Providence, RI, Michael Zacks did a good job on my Medalist. It is a quirky camera, designed for US Navy, and therefore built to military specifications. Because of unusual operational design, absolutely necessary to read manual. As we say, “There is the normal way and the military way”.
From my experience, unlike most cameras, a Medalist case helps when hand holding camera.

I know there are many repair shops for them in US - the point of this thread was to find something local.

AlexeyD, I suspect that the Medalist, originally produced for US navy, did not find a large market in the UK in the mid 1940s. First, not that many made and secondly, UK import restrictions for foreign cameras for the decade following war. No need for UK camera repairmen to bother with its quirkiness. However, a great camera worth getting fixed.

I bought a Kodak Medlist II and it's on the way.
Anybody knows about a book, publication, document which reviews the history of the Kodak Medalist?
I'm eager to read all available about the camera.
Thanks

I can't guarantee 100% that they can do it, but you might give Newton Ellis (https://www.newtonellis.com) in Liverpool a call. They are renowned for having the expertise to fix practically anything, and they are very favourably reviewed by people who have used them. Hope that helps!

Very important to read manual very carefully to avoid damage to camera. Available from Butkus. The major difference between Medalist and Medalist II is that the fine focusing knob was replaced by a flash contact. Also, while lens of later Medalist was coated, all Medalist II lenses are coated. Kodak used term “Luminized” for coating.
