Alright, so it is Kodak licensed, and a film case. Still, I just picked up one and it is surprisingly nice. Thick metal, thick paint, really solid. 5 individual compartments for 35mm film. Lovely vintage look. Also in Ektachrome colours, and plain silver. Maybe also black.



$25 at my local shop.

At $25 retail probably a high markup item. That said I want one and will all the problems Kodak is having staying in business I would not begrudge them the profit on this item.

edit; Just visited their site and they also have a metal double case for 10 roll at $29. If you don’t have a local brick & mortar camera store (I don’t) they are also available through Amazon for the same price.

It's actually really nice. Not cheap n' chintzy at all. Plastic ones go for $15, this one is soooo much nicer.

Still crazy to think that this film case costs the same as a really nice used Nikon N75... But that's the marketplace speaking for you!

This was never released as 'industry news' by Kodak.

I saw it in the shop, and am having some fun here describing it as such. As well as letting peeps know about it.

But to me the significance of such gadget is not larger than the release of a "Kodak" t-shirt.

I have some vintage Kodak items, several glass measuring lab style items, a 32oz, 16oz, and 8oz plus a red, cast metal wind up timer. Remember, Kodak had a red dot logo before Leica did.

When I see that all black 5 roll holder the first thing that popped into my head was, I want build a internal frame from hobby plywood, drill through the bottom on one end for a knob, and make a 35mm panoramic pinhole camera out of it. With cassette to cassette film handling.

I have Kodak. It's a film canister and the soft tape comes out the film slit. Also a women's watch.

It's a useful product, looks to be very well made and presented....and people are complaining. Nope. I just don't get the film community sometimes.

i used to have a plastic 35mm film container which I referred to as my "film hip flask". It lasted all of 18 months before the plastic hinges on it broke - cheap item not using the proper patented "plastic hinge". I bet this will last a lifetime. And if it gets the Kodak name out there some more, all the better.

Kodak t-shirt? Is it high quality 100% cotton? Which era of Kodak logo? And where can I get one?

For what it's worth, the film case looks nice!

It looks nice, maybe something for the showcase. I see no practical benefit from.
But it is a pity that such release even is a worth a thread other than in misc. equipment, but instead rather is meant to show the agility of Kodak.

Weren't zippered leather film cases sold way back when? I want to say "Kaliart" (SP) offered them for sale. Maybe this is not a silly idea after all. I once carried a clear plastic tube for my film.

Plenty of practical benefit for me. I use it to keep my film in it, and place it in a side pocket on my messenger bag.
Super well made, unlike the plastic ones I have. This will last a lifetime. And it looks fantastic.

It's THIS film community. Full of grumpy old men.
Others are nothing like this site, but they are also much more youthful.

I don’t think I’d use one. I’ve never used one before, so I don’t see starting to use one now. It takes up space and adds weight to a camera bag. Might make a good knickknack for your desk or darkroom if you are in the market for some photo-related knickknacks. Nothing wrong with knickknacks.

Between my brother and I, we have so much old Kodak stuff like this! Clocks, towels, drinking glasses, graduated jars, a really nice leather bomber jacket ....
It is nice to see some again.
In that way, it does fit in Industry News.

In my various camera bags are pockets to store exposed and unexposed films apart. The same for additional belt cases. Aside af that I acquired PE kitchen containers with sealing that are sized ideally to take films. In any case my films are stored in their dedicated PE canisters. I do not see a practical benefit to use these new metal containers to store unsealed films in, to the contrary. That is why I considered them showpieces. I might use them in a full retro camera-outfit.

I remember these being more expensive when they first released. Maybe it was the price + shipping from the only retailer at the time.
