Kodak HIE 400ft Bulk Roll on eBay... Questions!

So, there's a 400 foot bulk roll of 35mm High Speed Infrared/HIE on eBay right now; I would be really interested in buying this for myself as a bulk roll, though I'm new to the whole bulk loading thing. So, would it be possible to have someone (a professional or someone just more experienced) cut it into four rolls of 100ft so I could use a normal bulk loader and either load my own rolls to use or potentially sell? If the price doesn't go sky high, which it likely will, this would be a great opportunity to use more of this film!
 
Bulk loading issues aside, I would steer clear of it. HIE isn't known for its good keeping properties, and this is likely outdated by quite a bit.
 
It's dated 2003, and if it stays within a reasonable price, I'd be willing to give it a try. I'm sure if it doesn't work for me I could sell it to a couple hipsters!
 

Well, I'm going to outbid you, so you may as well not worry about it

But if for some reason, someone from here does outbid me on it and needs it cut down, I can do it for them. I've got the rewinds and split reels and spare cores and cans.

Well, since there aren't all that many places anyone interested in it, probably most people who will bid on it are already reading this.

I suggest you coordinate if 400 ft is too much and split the costs.
 
Interesting - that roll is movie film (BH perfs, footage numbered instead of frame numbered) - who on earth was shooting B&W IR movies back in the early 2000's ?! Must have been some freaky footage...

If that's the case, it's not HIE.
 
OK, I found an old Canadian PDF (in French!) of Kodak's B&W movie film catalog and it calls that part number "HIE718" so I'd say that's the stuff, just perf'd and edge-marked differently than when it comes in 36 exposure canisters.

If you had any interest in the film, you just increased the likely sale price by announcing it's availability to the world.... Why would you do that to the rest of us who WERE interested? Thanks Bill
 
Yeah, I was a bit bummed when I saw this thread pop up here, especially because the auction doesn't use the term "HIE" and so might have been missed in some peoples' searches... but now that the cat's out of the bag I figure we might as well discuss it. I mean, since I'm going to win it anyway

Lets all guess what the final price will be on the roll! My guess will be $350! That roll is the Holy Grail for HIE lovers. I once sold 2 rolls of HIE 36 exp that expired in 09 for $120.

At that price I should take my stock out the freezer (about 8 sheets 4x5, a roll or two of 120, and a pair of 35mm-36's) and send the kids off to college if I find the right auction buyer!!!
 
You know, even at $60 per roll, I think I'd get more joy out of shooting and printing my last four rolls than pocketing $240.
 
I'm sorry that I now announced it to the world, but it's all in good fun! I didn't expect to win it, but if I did happen to, I would rather know that I could use it and share it with some people who would. Duncan, I'll be sending you a message inquiring about buying a small amount of it from you!
 
it's at 177 already... already past my bidding limits for possibly fogged film
 
$120 for two rolls of HIE? Man. That is ridiculous. I ought to sell mine! The Efke and Rollei IR films are good enough for me at only ten bucks a roll!
 
Well, someone a little crazier than I am bought it for $487. If it's in good shape that might be worth it, but it's also quite possible that was $487 straight into the trash. Not worth the risk, in my opinion.

i had some cold stored infrared film stored +3 yrs after expiration and it was fogged
