Hi All, I have just started to get back into B&W dev. Today I mixed my Xtol, and Kodak fixer from powder. In the interests of space I decided to make the powder into 1.9 litres instead of 3.8 litres. I used it today for 7 mins with the usual agitation, and it was great. I then poured it back into the bottle. I just wondered if there was anything I should consider taking this approach? Thanks Paul

I take it that the stock solution with Kodak powder doesn't require any further dilution. I can't see a problem except that you are using it at twice the rate.

Not a question you have asked but I'll throw in my two-penny-worth anyway. I'd buy liquid 5L of rapid fixer and decant it into a 5L polypin( like a winebag in a box) and then dilute when ready to use into say 500ml bottle and pour back into the bottle .

Actually fixes more slowly, and acid concentration is too high. Could cause pinholes, drying spots, etc.

The activity of thiosulfate is lesser if you use a concentration too strong. May be you need longer fixing time. Other problems may occur as mentioned.
