Kodak films on Fuji paper

In the color negative space I've been enjoying Fuji's selection a lot more than Kodak for almost every ISO speed they offer. I wonder if I would think differently if I printed on Kodak paper instead of Fuji. The issue in Japan is that I can only buy 5x7 Kodak paper. Fuji is available in every size so I use it instead.

How do you guys print your Kodak film?

When I worked on color paper, we made a conscious effort to make Kodak and Fuji films print almost the same on Kodak paper. IDK if Kodak still does it and IDK what Fuji ever did.

I get great results using Fuji Crystal Archive Type II (8x10, 11x14) with 120 Kodak Ektar 100 and Portra 160 films (with Kodak Ektacolor chemicals). My understanding is that Kodak cut sheets are no longer available, but this may not be true where you are? I wouldn't use old color paper.

I only use Kodak color negative film because its all I can afford and I only use Fuji cut RA-4 paper because its all I can get. Still learning but so far so good.

I have printed various brands of negatives, Kodak included, on both Kodak Endura and Fuji CA II paper and have experienced no problems with either.

With Kodak closing the color paper plant in the UK and moving production to the Carestream plant in Rochester what is the possibility of getting cut sheets again? My suspicion is that Carestream making X-ray films nor the Kodak plant in England has had enough business to operate an individual plant. Clearly Carestream (assuming they finish their own products) has the ability to cut sheets (maybe under red safelights)
It would be nice to be able to buy cut sheets Kodak professional papers.

In a minilab setting, the only combination I ever had a problem with was any of the Kodak NC variety on the Fuji CA paper. Then again, I thought the NC line looked awful no matter what you did to it.

I once worked in a minilab setting and had problems printing the Portra NC onto Konica paper. But currently at home I print NC onto Fuji CA II with great results.

Eric, as we have discussed before, the Fuji paper offerings in Japan are different from the rest of the world, so I am not sure what relevance my comments will have for you. Here in Europe, I have used Fuji CA (the "plain Jane" version), Fuji CA DPII and Kodak EP to print from (mostly) Kodak negative film. There are differences in contrast/color palette between these papers, but they are rather subtle. It is entirely possible to make prints that are quite close, if not identical from the same negative on Fuji DPII and Kodak EP paper. I think I wrote about this in your other thread. My conclusion is that it is not possible to achieve a completely different "look" from the same negative simply by switching paper brands. I would say, if you do not like the look of Kodak CN film printed on Fuji paper, better stay with the films you like (Fuji) and don't waste your time hunting for Kodak paper.

Kodak paper is the one of my choice. I buy it in rolls and dispense it via a home made paper safe device. I have never really managed to get along with Fuji paper and found it was very prone to cyan colour casts. I also think that Kodak paper is just that little bit thicker too and does not kink so easily as FUJI.

I also find that FUJI paper is just that bit faster(sensitive) than Kodak which may account for the cyan cast when printing under a Duka safelight, even when turned down low to around '5' out of scale of '50'. At the same level I never get casts on Kodak paper other than from crap filtration which is my fault.
No matter what film make I use be it Fuji Kodak or the so called Agfa (which I think is Fuji anyway) the filtration remains the same or close to it, never varying by about 5 units either way
