Kodak Film - never heard of this one before

Came across this yesterday. Is Kodak rebranding their 100 speed film as a professional type?

Apparently it goes back to 1997. I don’t think this is a current product.

I bought this film in Tajikistan (just north of Afghanistan) in 2007. Maybe they are selling the same film in US under another name.

Counterfeit? I'd suspect it in Tajikistan; less so in Iowa, but it is possible. What is its provenance?

You mean from Chinese film factories? The film felt and looked like Kodak, and so did the pictures.

The shop (University Camera in Iowa City, IA) had several unboxed rolls, and also a boxed 5-pack. I looked at the 5-pack and saw the expiration date was sometime in 2012, so these are recent rolls.

Seems to be Gold 100. Bought a few rolls in Pacific Mall--a large Chinese shopping complex--in Toronto late last year. Prints like Gold 100.

I have a bunch of those, bought them for like a 1 USD per roll and they sold it in packs of 5. Purchased them in the Philippines. Expiry was 2013. It does look like Kodak Gold (scans only for me).

Someone sent me ProImage 100 to develop. The image quality is very high, it is also listed on Kodak's site. I do not think it is Gold 100, the mask appears different, and the image quality better, and it doesn't curl like Gold 100 does in the same drying conditions.

Though I haven't seen Gold 100 for a while for comparison.

I bought some in 120 format from liberty photo products about 8 years ago. It's gold 100.

Reading the above-referenced link, I note these words:

"It is intended for portrait and social applications, and can be stored at room
temperature—even in hot, humid climates." (my emphasis added).

Sounds like it is film targeted for certain climates.

I also note these words:

"Its printing characteristics are similar to those of KODAK GOLD Films
to help simplify printing for photofinishers." (my emphasis added).

Sounds like it is Gold 100 adjusted for certain climates.

It was very popular in some South American countries a few years ago, 135 format only anyway. It was packaged in Mexico.

It was late last year and I doubt it or the store is there now. The film was just sitting in a bin near the cash in a small housewares store. For cheap film, you'd do better at the upcoming PHSC fair early next month.
