Just wondered if all Kodak film is made in Rochester, NY, and who owns the factory where it is made.

Eastman Kodak Owns Building 38, which makes film for BOTH Eastman Kodak, (Mostly for Motion Picture use) and Kodak Alaris. (AKA Kodak Profesional) And perhaps for other firms also.

Staff varied from 120,000 to 65,000 in the period from 1965 to 1990.

Don't forget Toronto.

In the old days kodak coded the edge printing ti indicate where the film was at least Packaged...

US K'ODAK or S'AFETY FILM
Canada KO'DAK or SA'FETY FILM
UK KOD'AK or SAF'ETY FILM
France KODA'K or SAFE'TY FILM

And (this one confused me the first time I saw it, The Colarado Factory used KOD,AK

Eastman Kodak @ Harrow UK now Kodak Alaris lost 450 people in 2004-5 when they closed their film coating line but they still are operating.

Chinese Kodak factory in Xiamen and l don't know when they discontinued, but Xiamen factory production last color film expired in 2009. Disposable camera production line closed in 2006.

Eastman closed all the film lines cept Rochester 2004-5 or so.
They upgraded their mono film technology about the same time eg Trix changed to Tx.

Some "Kodak" film is meanwhile made by Agfa.

Produced for a Kodak spin-off under former Kodak tradename.

And many of the photographic products curently made are the product of more than one of the traditional suppliers. where a film is coated in one place and converted in another place.

The Microfilm deal was a few years back. Kodak sold off the business that made Microfilm cameras and document scanners. the volume of Microfilm was shrinking and the new company contracted with Agfa Belgium to make the quanity needed. Agfa Belgium did previously make a microfilm.

Be very careful to keep in mind that AGFA Belguim is NO LONGER RELATED to "Agfa Photo" who has their products made by at LEAST 2 different suppliers.

It is AgfaPhoto not Agfa film. Yes, made by Fuji.

1958 Documentary on production of Kodak film

Hi All,

This seemed to be the right thread to plop this really charming and informative little documentary from 1958 I just saw on how Kodak makes (made?) film.

The voice-over is in Dutch, but there are English sub-titles, therefore, when you finish watching you'll either know a lot more about the film manufacturing, or be able to speak like a native Amsterdammer! As they say in Dutch, "In tahl is neet hennu" (<my phonetic gibberish version of the expression, "One language is not enough"!)
