Here are threee pictures that may be of interest.

1. Photo of early Kodak making equipment. Kodak no longer uses closed kettles. No need to in a clean room.

2. Photo of Sample Coater. I believe that this is an early one as the ones I used were about 2x larger. The hopper is in the center foreground and is the extrusion type.

3. Kodachrome processing machine with Dave at the controls. The generation of this machine is unknown, but with Dave there, it must be K-12. The first Kodachrome process had 28 steps and K-12, which came later had 18.

4. Process control. Here are Mitch and Ron working on one of the vAg controller boards for the automatic feedback loop system. Two people who worked on this are not in the picture. Ron, on the right, got my office when I retired

These are all from the Kodak Research Labs 75th anniversary history book.

Can you describe the setup of the first photo? I can see the shaft of the mechanical stirrer coming in from the top with the brace mounted on the wall to the left. Also, I imaging that the two large pipes coming in from the bottom center and left are the steam tubes to heat the emulsion. What are the large pots in the lower part of the photo? And I like the ground glass stoppered bottle of what could be silver nitrate on the shelf.

Kirk;

I have no clue about any of that. A number of pictures of this type that I have seen are so obsolete that the purpose is unknown today.

PE, would the kettles have been used for emulsion making or something else?

Thanks,
Emulsion.

That is reported to be emulsion making equipment. I have no first hand knowledge of it, nor does anyone that I have discussed this with know anything about it. It was before our time.

That was kind of neat. Thanks! I always want to see how my film is made and (Kodachrome) is processed
