I have a few tins (US = cans) of D76 of unknown age. I mixed some yesterday and developed a roll of Plus-X (1:1) with no apparant loss of activity. The powder was not clumped and dissolved easily.

The tins have no expiry date, and the label displays the address of Kodak Australasia (now only a distant memory).

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with old tins of this stuff? Will the remainder of the stock suddenly die?

Thanks in advance
Lyn

A while ago I used some Dektol in cans and (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Mixed it according to the instructions and it worked just fine! My friend has not mentioned any problems developing with it (pun DEFINITELY intended :D) so I'd presume it's worked well until exhausted.

Many thanks Justin. Apologies for not searching first before wasting APUG space. It did not occur to me that anyone would still have cans that appear to be around 30 years old.

If there is one can, you might bother in case the activity IS a little lower than the fresh stuff you use.

But if you get a hundred 1 qt cans... obviously there is a reason to try it out.

The old cans were great... give it a try, and ALWAYS test a new can before developing important film.
