If Report is correct 5222/7222 is no longer for 100/400/1000 Lenghts. No more negative bw cine film anymore in 35mm format, it effects 16mm world also.

The Cine film is made and distributed by Eastman Kodak (EK) nothing to do with UK or Kodak Alaris.

If they are not selling it in sufficient volume they wont make it.

But EK also make stills film so this is not good news at all.

Ive only got about 200 foot of 5222 left, so waaaaaaaaa! Note they stopped Tri-X cine some time ago.

The local students here only use Fomapan, or rather they buy Foma until the shop runs out.

I was in the local Pharmacy today and the film shelf was heaving with BW400CN, at normal price!

They're just trying to streamline their products. I'd jump to the support of Kodak over Fuji anyday, if anything Kodak are trying their hardest just to stay in the game

Xmas you are right the UK is innocent (management stupidity is a global thing) they didn't completely stop tri-x cinefilm it was/is still available in 16 and Super 8mm. Another of my mistakes was to call the killed off film Tri-X as it was Double-X and not Tri-X.

Those EK idiots completely killed their B/W neg and pos line. I seriously doubt that they will keep the 100ft and Super8 Tri-X in production.
Unfortunately this is no wonder no one shoots real B/W anymore, only desaturated color that doesn't even come close to the true B/W look.

What about 5222 in 400ft rolls? or is that also gone?

TXR in 16mm was a gateway mostly sold to film school students for their first "Real" assignment, as nothing helps one to learn the craft as shooting reversal where their is no "fix it in Post" available.

may have to order some ORWO N74 in 35mm sooner rather then later. want to encourage the folks that "get it"

So "film schools" like the one I attended no longer require students to shoot film so they aren't buying any. Kodak should keep making film that no one is buying anyway?

Much of the motion picture industry no longer uses film so for some reason they don't teach it. Poor kids. Anyway, two out of three movies I've done this year were shot on kodak film.

Think Foma core their bulk 30 and 50 meter lengths on cine "2 inch" cores and may be happy with special orders of longer lengths as eg double wrapped poly bags in cardboard boxes ok. The cine cans normally have cardboard outers too.

So cine people not in last chance saloon yet.

Id forgotten about 16mm Trix oops.

To everyone getting in a twist over 5222, go back and read the original statement - it hasn't gone, the stock 1000ft length and the stock 16mm lengths will be apparently going - the 400ft 5222 will remain. 7222 was hideously grainy - today almost all S16 BW is Vision3 converted in post. The rest of the withdrawals are things I thought should have gone long ago - who really uses 100ft rolls in 16mm - as in more than 1 or 2 rolls a year? Given that Kodak operates a JIT system anyway, I imagine a suitable MOQ would get you the stuff finished to whatever sprocket holes and width you wanted. I bet that the Tri-X reversal stuff is simply remnant stock that's been slowly getting cut and sold off - like the BW400CN. Anyway, don't forget that until Fuji got heavily into the cinematography world in the 1980s there was one colour neg cinema stock from Kodak and that was it.

Cinematography would appear to be a forum like APUG. A thread has been started there which links to Frameworks where a person called Alex Balkam appears to have received a communication from Kodak about the information we are discussing. However on reading A Balkam's communication he uses the word "probably" so it appears that Kodak contacts him but can't be definite about things.

Seems strange that Kodak contacts someone before (1) they can be sure about what they are telling him and (2) choose to tell this person before any making formal announcement to its public.

Sounds very strange but no doubt is precisely the kind of "corporate madness" that some here would expect of Kodak where they believe that stupidity is unlimited so it isn't strange to them.

Still a little strange to me however.
