One of my contacts in Europe alerted me to the fact that a photo lab/business here in the U.S. dropped $10,000 for a cutting of 5x7 Portra-160NC color negative film. Does anyone out there know where and if this film can still be purchased. I realize that B&H has the material but that was not the vendor mentioned by my source. If all else fails I will have to purchase a set of night vision goggles and cut my own.

Could you expand on what you mean? "Dropped $10,000......a cutting of..."

They cut bigger film to 5x7?

Pardon my ignorance.

There have been a few vendors who've taken up the slack since kodak discontinued 5x7 film. B and H is the current source.

Check out Varo Technical Services. They're in Pa. They specialize in repackaging photosensitive materials. I've had them render rolls into sheets and 8x10 into 5x7. This past month they rendered 10 boxes of 400nc 8x10 to 5x7. Impeccable job. Perfect repackaging. Not a spot of dust. Tolerence to half a mm. Very reasonable - $150 for the job. Can't recommend them enough in this time of limited supplies in my favorite materials in useable sizes. Next I'll have them cut a roll of ultra down to sheets for me. If you call them talk to Paul and tell 'em frotog sent you.

Color Services, a custom lab in Needham, MA, sponsored an order for 5x7 Portra 160NC some months back. As I recall, it was all committed to pre-paid customer orders, but you could always ask. If whoever you speak to first doesn't know about it, ask for the owner, Marc Elliott.
