Kodachrome Portfolio Contest

Hello everyone. I'm organizing a contest to conjure up some support for my favorite color film, Kodachrome. I'm probably going to include categories for best slide and best series. I haven't come up with any more specifics on the matter yet, as I just came up with the whole concept in December. Is anyone here still shooting Kodachrome that is interested in submitting some slides?

I sometimes shoot Kodachrome, I wish it was available in larger format as I rarely shoot 35mm anymore.

Brad if it is Kodachrome 25, I'll trade you for it.

I've always wondered about the usefullness of a film that "makes you think every day's a sunny day. oh yeah" (Although I do have a Nikon camera and I like to take photographs)

I'm slowly shooting my last roll of K-25. I still use K-64 sometimes. I never really liked K-200. If you navigate to my website through my profile, many of the bird photos are Kodachrome. One's even pushed Kodachrome.

I have hundreds of K-25 and K-64 slides. I rarely shoot 35mm anymore, and had not thought of those slides in some time. Now, I'll get them out and look again. Keep us posted.

Fingel, It's a 24 exposure roll of Kodachrome 64. Expired in 2003 but has been in the fridge since I bought it. Interested?

It's sad to see such a lack of interest in this great line of film. I am not sure whether the contest should include past work, although that would really have to be honors only. Then again, if they're on K25, they're going to win automatically ;-) Also, I guess there'd be a few digital guys trying to "fool" everyone by burning digital onto slides just to show how it's *superior*. The whole point of this thing is to try and showcase the positive aspects of shooting Kodachromes (yes, IMO there are a few still left) as well as showcasing them to others since I am planning on building a website devoted to this film. DID I MENTION TO EVERYONE THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A CASH PRIZE

The last time I looked, it would cost something on the order of $40, and take upto three months to have a single roll processed. Is this consistent with your experience?

You can get a mailer for about 5 or 6 bucks from B&H. Last time I shot a roll of Kodachrome I just brought it down to Longs (California Drugstore chain) and had it back in about a week. Maybe around $7 total. They still sell the Kodachrome 64 in their photo section...I've actually seen T-max 400 on the pegs there also.

Thanks Brad, I'm pretty well stocked on K64. You should shoot it and take it down to Longs...whoever quoted you $40 is trying to pull one over on you.

Here's my favorite K-25--

This is what K-64 looks like pushed 1-1/3 stop (A&I was one of the last places to offer this service). I think the slide is a little redder and I may have corrected it a bit (nothing I couldn't do easily with an Ilfochrome).--

This one's got a real Kodachrome look (K-64 in this case)--

Hmmm, very interesting. There's a Long's Drug a few miles from my home. I'll have to give it a try.

Hi there,

I think I still have 5 rolls of K-64/120 and the mailers. Does anyone know if Kodak will still honor these?

Nope. This comes up every once in a while on various lists, and there's nowhere in the world left that processes Kodachrome 120 as far as I know.

Actually, there's a small local shop here that will do Kodachrome 120; Kingstown Camera. They're meticulous about their work and very picky with their chemistry, running the machine monday through friday and refreshing it as soon as it's needed.

No, according to their website, they send Kodachrome to Kodalux, which no longer does K-14 120--

They do E-6 films in house, but Kodachrome is not an E-6 film. K-14 is a fairly complicated process and beyond the capacities of most small local shops. Here is a list of remaining facilities that handle Kodachrome (35mm and movie film only)--

I think that even Kodalux may now outsource Kodachrome to Dwayne's.

Yes, that's it only 3 labs in the world now that do Kodachrome. I have a 1/2 dozen rolls left in the freezer, all Canadian which is process included. I send it to Kodak Canada, who I assume forwards it to Dwaynes. It takes about a month, but they honour the kodak processing so it doesn't cost anything extra over what I originally paid.

From what I have read on the internet. It is true that the Kodak (Kodalux) labs no longer process Kodachrome. The Kodak mailers do have expiration dates on them. About 2 1/2 years ago I lost 2 of 4 rolls in the mail. First loss in over 25 years. Kodak's tracking system claimed they never received them, including the ones they did process and mail back to me. I have used the drugstore chain Walgreens in the last year to drop off Kodachrome for forwarding to Kodak processing which is now done by Dwaynes Photo Service for them. That's after Kodak forwards the film to them. Just make sure Walgreens knows what they have to do with that roll of "slide" film. They get a little confused about what it is. The price is also very cheap.
