Kiev 60: a strange problem in the shutter

Good morning. I have a strange (but important) problem with my Kiev 60: when I cock the shutter the lever does not move back and the mirror remains slightly raised from its correct position. If ( once the lens is removed) I push the mirror down with my finger it locks in its correct position, the cocking lever springs back and I can shoot normally. How can I fix it? Thank you very much for your answers.

3.3. Shutter Cocking​

When lever 1 is turned to the stop, kinematic linkages 51, 13, 40, 39, 28, 37, and 36 cock the shutter and raise and lock the mirror.


During this movement, lever 10 moves to a 45° position and locks lever 34.

3.4. Operation of the Aperture Mechanism​

At the end of the shutter cocking stroke, rods 45, 41, 42 open the aperture blades to the set value, and pawls of rods 44, 47, 48 prevent accidental release and repeated shutter cocking.


The diaphragm release lever operates from the mechanisms of the camera as one assembly.
Lever 59 returns to its initial position under the action of spring 16.

See if the mirror bumper foam has deteriorated into goo and is blocking the latch. You may need to remove the old mirror bumper foam, clean that area, and replace it. The other easy thing to try is a couple drops of lighter fluid on the mirror hinge and the small lever to the right of the mirror box (mirror return lever, #34).

Thanks for your quick and knowledgeable response. I'll try to study the drawings and text. I have the impression that lever 1 is not completing the loading cycle and is locking itself early.

I love this camera very much. Even though it's heavy and bulky, the waist-level viewfinder is very bright and the lenses are excellent. A bit fragile, I learned to repair them myself. When the first one broke, I bought a second, then I repaired the first, the second broke, and I bought a third. Today I own three Kiev 60s and two Kiev 6cs, so five in total. Three are in perfect working order, and I use them all.
