Kentmere on sale until March 16th - USA

I saw that the Film Photography Project store is doing a Kentmere sale. $6 per roll. You use the promo code "student". It applies to 35mm and 120 prepared rolls in all speeds. My order of 20 rolls of Kentmere 400 120 came out to $127 grand total vs. the same shopping cart costing $164 at B&H. Thought some people here might be interested.

Be careful, their 35mm rolls are only 24 exposure.

They also have their Svema films back in stock.

Tempting, but I need to shoot a lot more of my already frozen Kentmere before I grab any more.

Anyone have experience with backing paper issues and long term frozen Kenmere in 120?

Just asking...
 
I'm not sure 120 Kentmere been around long enough (3-4 years?) for anyone to have issues, but I haven't had any. I burned my last roll a few weeks ago, and it had probably been frozen a couple of years. I didn't see any issues.

BTW that was Kentmere 100. I just restocked with 100, 400, and a few rolls of 200, which I've never used before.

I've had backing paper issues with Foma, Ilford, and Rollei, all non-frozen, but never with Kentmere. The issues I had with Ilford were long in the past, the others more recently. Used Kentmere in 120 for the last several years with no QC problems at all.
 

So might the problem be simply that there was no 120 Kentmere around when you had the problem with Ilford rather than Kentmere backing paper being any better than Ilford paper which how your above statement might be read

It is extremely unlikely that there is any fundamental difference between the backing paper that Harman sources for their Ilford branded 120 films and the backing paper that Harman sources for their Kentmere branded 120 films.
Perhaps someone who shoots both can advise whether there is any apparent difference at all, other than the markings/attachments at the very beginning. If so, I'm surprised, because the major issue with 120 backing paper is the near prohibitive size and costs arising from the minimum order requirements of those who can supply it to Harman.

Yes, but Ilford has improved their paper problems since I was having issues with it. That was about a decade ago

I don't think Canada asks for tariffs related to US importations. It is just the opposite and that is the American buyer that has to pay it to their government (US customs) in the case they order from Canada.

By the way, a little word about Film Photography Project. I did follow them especially during their first years. It is a very reliable site with knowledgeable people + very dynamic and funny, no doubt. Once they started selling photography items (films, cameras, papers, etc.) it was mentionned they go as a "non-profit organisation". Correct me if I am wrong. The bottom line is that they sell their stuff at the same price than the competition..., unless there is a promotion. Of course they have expenses related to their activities (building, heating, furniture, etc.) but I don't make it somehow.
 
A local dealer (Europe here) is running a sale on HP5 and Delta 400 in 120 on the same dates. I am seeing the former slowly creep up and past 10€ a roll in the retail channels. Have a bunch left, but probably will stock up on more. K200 and K400 I had bought a few rolls back home, not so much in stock at the stores and had to fly it back with me. But yikes, not so long ago 10€ was Premium Kodak professional color film prices, and those are towards 20€ nowadays.

Just to extrapolate: I keep my Ilford 120 refrigerated, not frozen. Mostly because of the backing paper issues as I had it on non-refrigerated Ilford past its expiration date, so far no problem. I did have one odd roll of D400 exhibit slight mottling in my asian long trip (shot Nov 2024, IIRC exp 3/2025) but it was under a month of heat and humidity.

always compare to ilfordphoto.ca, as well as dealers like studio argentique, or great canadian film warehouse. all three will ship free in Canada on a larger order. argentique want CDN$9.95 for 120 Kentmere, with free shipping with a 200 dollar order before GST/HST
 

My commentary was based on the price offered at Photo Argentique on Rachel Street (Montréal), which seems their regular price..., contrary to FFP who says their offer is a rebate !
