I just went onto Silverprint's website www.silverprint.co.uk to see if they were listing the new Ilford developers and was saddened to find out that Kentmere have discontinued their Art Classic and Document Art range of papers. Apparently, they can no longer source the paper base. A real shame as they were unique. And they have just re-released Document Art as a double weight paper when the single weight paper base became unavailable.

That's all of Kentmere's Art range gone within the last year or so . The information is on Silverprint's News page.

That is unfortunate, but they do seem committed to keeping these interesting papers in production, so I'm guessing they'll find a new paper stock and give it a new name, like they did when the stock for Charcoal R went out of production.

SO, the same problem Kodak had with the base, Kentmere has.

No mindless hatred of Kentmere ?

But, to be honest, this is a very sad thing.

We will have to both 'make do' with what the manufacturers can provide
( within THEIR limitations )

and we will need to make materials ourselves which are satisfying.

And, likely, develop new processes which carry us forward.

And now, a Kentmere moment.

That's interesting as there is an inkjet paper on the market whose base is so similar to Art Classic (except that it's white rather than cream) that I'd swear it was the same stuff! The weight and texture are practically identical....

Let's hope Kentmere can find an alternative as I'll certainly miss Art Classic.

I liked both papers, esp Art Classic as it was similar to Ektalure (still have 80 sheets-wo!), though the surface was a little too textured for my liking-think I'll buy a few boxes anyway. BTW, Forte PW semimatt and Maco RN are well worth a go if you like this sort of paper. Retro also do a bromoil paper.
