Kallitype sensitiser mixing problem

I mixed 100ml of Ferric Oxalate last night and today a sediment has settled at the bottom. I have been making kallitypes for a few years now but never had this happen before. Has some thing gone wrong? Do you simply shake the bottle before use?

I can't say what the sediment is, but maybe it's just undissolved oxalate. Were it me, I wouldn't shake it up. I would, however, try making some prints with it. If it works, I'd just use it as is.

It’s strange as it never happened before. I’ll filter out the sediment and try a print tomorrow.

Actually the sediment has disappeared after a few days. It now looks clean and clear. I made a few prints and it seems to be working fine.

Good to hear it's working!

Sounds like it was undissolved oxalate. I've read comments that it can be hard to dissolve, but I haven't had that issue, myself.

I had some Ferric Oxalate from Nymoc in Toronto several years ago (out of business) that was a real bitch to get into solution. There was always a thick sediment on the bottom. I warmed up the solution, reshook the bottle, and it eventually would dissolve. For years now I've been using FO from B&S. Goes into solution way more easily.
