Hello All,

I was in the process of adjusting my Crown Graphic rangefinder to work with the lens I have mounted on the camera when all hell broke loose. I had the lens and rangefinder working together pretty well without having to open the rangefinder up. But I was having trouble with a little miss alignment from right to left(lateral). So I opened up the rangefinder case to have a go at it. I was following the directions from a few sites on the net and all was going well when I think I moved the bottom mirror out of alignment because now nothing works. I have no idea what to do now except scream!!!! Please help. If anyone lives in NYC and could take some time out of the day to take a look it would be greatly appreciated. Is there any place in NYC that fixes this problem? I would first like to try myself with help.

Thanks

The bottom prism won't move? Or does it move but nothing seems to line up? Do you see two images, or just one? Perhaps you moved the lateral so far that it doesn't line up at all? Everything is fixable except for stripping the left-handed scew. Don't freak out, I've thrown my kalart completely out and adjusted it for a particular lens again. It's not hard, just takes time and patience.
Just tell us which screws you adjusted and maybe a little more, you know?
As for NYC, sorry i'm real far. There is enough out there online and on this forum and graflex.com to DIY though.

ps- do you have a laser-point pen? it makes adjusting/aligning these things A LOT EASIER.

Phillip,
The bottom prism is attach to a long arm and this arm does move. It has a little play from left to right. Right now I am only seeing 1 image. That left hand screw is almost stripped but by the previous owner. The screws I moved were the one on the left of the pointer to what I thought would fix lateral movement, I also loosened the screw just below it that has an arrow underneath it. I also removed the screw that the lateral adjustment pointer is attached to. Not on purpose it just came out. I am now getting no movement of the images when i look through the rangefinder. Or the movement is at a bear minimum. It also seems to be out of lateral. I sometimes get the 2 images in the viewfinder but the are so far apart. I JUST WANT TO SCREAM!!
Thanks for your help and I will Breath.

Hello again,
I relized from reading elsewhere that there is a spring at or near the bootom mirror that needs to go in a specific spot and I think mine has poped out of its location. Does anyone have a picture of this spring and where it should go?
Thanks again

I copied the instructions on how to adjust a Kalart rangefinder a while back and made a PDF file. If you would like a copy, PM me (I can't post file attachments on APUG).

Regards,

David
