Kaiser V-system 3501 light fall-off

Hello everybody!

I have Kaiser v-system 3501 conversed to 6x7 negatives with kaiser conversing kit. And the problem is light fall in corners. I have Scheider companon 100mm 5.6 lens so that should be correct but still i have lot of light fall in prints and of course vignetting at board.

Any suggestion?

The only thing to exchange is the condenser assembly (and of couse the format masks and lens).

But there are 4 assemblies:

24x36
6x6
6x7
6x9

I assume you got the wrong one.

The two largest ones have rectangular lenses.


There also is a diffuser plate standard beneath the mixing chamber. Might it be missing?

Hey, thanks for quick reply! Actually I have two condensers, one with rectangular lens and one with round lens. Vp6002 or something. How about lens adapters? Can I have that wrong way or something?

Use that rectangular one you got.

Kaiser offers two lens adapters, a shorter and a longer one. The longer one is for lenses 60-105mm.

But I do not see how the wrong tube could lead to vignetting anyway.

VP6002 and 3501 are the designation of an original enlarger assembly. Kaiser offered a lot of set-ups. So those designationsd are confusing.
But most parts out the V-System fit any enlarger.


You might inform at Kaiser.

Here is photos of lens and that little mysterious part and parts of my enlarger. Right side of photo is that setup which one I suppose to be right setup.

The Componon consists of two nearly symmertrical sections on both sides of the aperture.

That additional "lens" you got is the back section of your enlarging lens. Screw it in again.

Ok, Ive been using that on lens But I can't find that diffuser plate what you mentioned earlier in your message. Where it should be positioned?

The light exit of the lamp-housing should be covered by that diffusor plate.

Anyway, now that you repaired your enlarger lens give the system a try, and don't bother for the moment with that diffusor.

Thanks for quick reply again I just tried with adapter and that doesnt solve my problem. So, back to that diffusor plate. Is that diffusor like filter above or beneath filter holder?

Yes, lens adapter Should it be that I have wrong lamp-house. There is two lamphouses and those are pretty much identical.

I did not look at your second photograph.

-) Did you check for lighting eveness with the bellows extracted to a reasonble degree (enabling focusing with your lens)? Thus not with compressed bellows.


-) I thought you got a lamp housing with reflector lamp and mixing chamber. But you got the basic version with opalescent bulb.

-) Kaiser made at least 3 different versions of such a housing. But to my understanding they all should be interchangable.
But to be on the save side: Did you exchange your lamp-housings keeping the lower part with the rectangular condenser? (With bellows extended?)



If it still would not work, contact Kaiser.

I just found what problem was. I just twisted opal lamp about 35 degrees to right. Apperently opal lamps light is not very even

My fault!
As I did not consider lamp adjusting. I did not expect that to be that dramatic as I concluded from your description. Especially in such small housing wich does not give much room anyway. In contrast to the Focomat type of heads.

Interesting with the housings you got that just the one with mirror reflector has (seemingly) no lamp adjustment whereas the one with the diffusor has.


Which of the two gave that problem?


-) Kaiser, relating to the first model of their opalescent bulb housing, do not hint at lamp adjustment at all.

-) earlier models of that housing are stated not to be useful for 6x7 or 6x9. Maybe that is why one of your housings is larger. Though the light exits seem equal in size.
