i just got back to film photography a couple of months ago.after having a mamiya sekor slr in grade school i wanted something better.i fell in love with the canon F-1.saved my money , worked in a gas station and finally bought it from 46th street photo i believe way back in 72 or 73.my love affair began. armed with a simple 50mm lens i took a lot of photo's of everything.i was big into drag racing so i bought a long zoom lens.nothing like looking into the car windows while you sat in the stands.so we'll move on from here as i set up my black and white darkroom. shot a lot of color slides as i had a projector and screen.some of them were quite good as i still have them. money troubles etc led me to sell off everything a couple of years later.
so now i'm in my sixties, and i have a digital point and shoot and a young kid at work decides to buy a canon ae-1 program
off craigslist for 35.00 bucks with a bunch of lenses.that convinced me to get my camera again.i wound up cruising thru a flea market and found a used canon A-1 with a 1.8 50mm , 199a flash and an ma motor drive .evething looked almost brand new and functioned perfect.no battery corrosin , so i bought it.i now have 3 A-1'S , an F-1 that is pretty beat up but works.found a power winder f for it really cheap at a flea market also.like brand new. and quite a bit more, so i guess what i'm trying to say is this, dont hold back,go out get that camera whatever it may be and enjoy yourself.life is too short not to indulge yourself in at least 1 vise.legal of course. and film camera's are it for me.just have to convince the wife i need more stuff.
that is a work in progress.
so again hello and thanks for listening.

Hello and welcome to Photrio. I too was into drag racing big time. Not from a photo POV, but actually racing in Pro Gas and Super Gas on a 9.80 index. 77 Vega with 406 c.i. small block.....
btw: Richard Shute who is the long time owner of North Coast Photographic services in Carlsbad, Ca. was the main photographer for most all of the drag racing events here in So Cal back in the 70's thru the 90's.

Let's see, back in '72-'73 I was taking the Erie Lakawana line from the Oranges into mid-town Manhattan a least twice a month to shop at 42st Photo for darkroom supplies and look at cameras and darkroom gear. My first SLR then was a Canon FTb which I later replaced with a Nikon F2as that I bought from Olden Camera just a few blocks away. I was about 14 or so at the time - we were probably running in the same circles to all the different camera shops in the upper 34th street area where there was camera shop after camera shop

Regards,
Mike

Within limits, you could upload an image or two in this thread by using the "Upload Image" link at the bottom right of the Reply box.
You will need to resize most images down to 800 pixels on the longest side for the upload to work.
If you want to upload an share a lot of photography, then supporting the site by becoming a subscriber allows you to upload to the Galleries.
Hope this helps.

You go to the gallery, see tab at top of page, and then click on "add media". Best to keep your image to 1100 pixels max along the long side. I look forward to seeing your images!

I was doing about once a month, but from Maplewood. Same time period. We were probably on the same train a time or two.
