just picked up a hasselblad 500c from an estate sale for 300 dollars good deal? y/n?

So it's a 500c with a eye level prism finder, 3 backs and 80 planar lens with hood... for 300 bucks... It looks brand new!! besides a little corrosion on one of the dark slides... there are 2 styles of backs it came with... what's the difference?

You got taken! Seriously, you're just bragging, right? There are mulitple variations on the backs, so you'd need to be more specific on what you have before we can talk about the differences.

If the shutter is working at all speeds you've found yourself a very nice camera for good price. The filmbacks are probably the older "12" and the newer "A12", where the older type have a "peeping hole behind the little lid on the back of the filmback. There are plenty of posts etc. on how the correct use of the 12 magazine (as well as similar info on the newer A12 magazines).
Search here for C12 vs A12 or similar.
There is also information on http://www.hasselbladhistorical.eu where you can find info on the camera as well as the A12 magazines.

Yeah actually the guy was giving it to me at that price as a thank you... It was from his uncle passing away and I priced and tested all his cameras... I told him I couldn't take it for that price... But he insisted

So, either you are taking this opportunity to brag about your acquisition; in which case you know full well what the value is,

or,

You took on the responsibility of advising an heir as to the condition and value of some relatively high end equipment in an estate without having a clue about what you were doing.

Hopefully, you knew the answer to your inquiry before you asked the question.

On the other hand, if you did and you low-balled the estate values,it might become an even more interesting experience for you if the tax authorities are on the ball.

Nah I knew it was valuable but I didn't know how valuable... I have seen some on eBay but I wasn't there to price the hasselblad just the slr and tlr he had... Didn't know he had a hassy until I got there... It was kinda sad actually he just wanted to get rid of everything..

The only thing I'd be cautious about C's is the very early ones are very different on the inside from other C's.

Early versions have the little hole top left as you look at the body. This body is the one case where parts are really an issue.

On what basis did you qualify as expert enough to test and price the other cameras? Not knowing the value of the Hassleblad 500c may qualify you as a non-expert. I can say with authority that I am not an expert either. I have no idea what the value of that camera is.

The only camera I can be confident of the value of would be the Nikon EL-2 or FT-3. I've bought several of each and learned what sort of condition to expect at a given a price. Other cameras? No clue.

You must have a fair amount of experience with the other cameras in the estate sale, right?

it wasn't really an estate sale... he inherited it and was trying to sell it off... He was a pretty elderly man with little knowledge of the internet.. so we sat down and we ebayed the prices of all his gear... taking a pretty good average of market value.... then we labeled them with the prices he should sell them off at.... He just needed help and was so happy with the other item prices and the fact that I took time out of my day to help him, he wanted to sell the hasselblad to me for cheap... I guess he didn't really care...

Just on another update... He gave me the bag with the hasselblad in it... (an old old camera bag) and i took it home... I was digging out all the backs and the lens hood out of the pocket when I felt another bulge in an inner pocket... it turned out to be a Gossen Luna pro...
