Just ordered an old Nikon Coolscan LS-10E Negative Scanner. What do I need to know?

I just picked up one of these off of ebay. It's SCSI but I figured with Scanvue I should be able to make it work.

Anything I should know as I enter (or at least try with hardware as old as the beginning of time) the world of 35mm scanning/digitizing?

Not a good purchase, even if you can get it to work. 8-bit hardware vintage 1993/ Windows 3.x/Photoshop 2, I think. Here is the manual, enjoy

its going to be SCSI only, I could have given you my LS-20 but then its not worth it either.

The LS-10 will do OK with negatives and isn't too bad, but you'll absolutely need that SCSI. Are you using a laptop? If so and IF it has a PCMCIA slot you can get a SCSI card for that cheap off ebay. ONLY get the Adaptec one.

My advice to you is don't put much effort into it and get an Epson 4870 used. It will do USB 2 and one of the reasons my LS-20 is on the shelf is that the Epson 4870 scans better in every way you look at it.

in my view yes, but once you go past the LS-30 it starts to be more even, and by the LS-4000 (note not the ls-40, but LS-4000, LS-50 and LS-5000) its clearly in favour of the Nikon.
