Wow! Both excellent camera's, the RX and the 9. Allthough a Contax fan myself, I am inclined to think that the Dynax (Maxxum) 9 is the best, most complete, and surtainly the fastest 35mm camera ever made. The pinnacle of 35mm photography, in my mind, and a credit to Minolta.

A question for you (if you don't mind and happen to be watching this thread), will all of the these lenses show the aperture setting in the viewfinder?

I'm the type that likes to keep my eye up to the viewfinder as much as possible .

Naaklvoerder- I agree with you about the Maxxum/Dynax 9. Most people seem to prefer the Maxxum/Dynax 7, but to me that camera was too complicated and I did not like the plastic build quality. Just didn't take to that camera at all.

Looks like my first lens is a Zeiss 50mm f/1.7 fine by me, it's free.

Nice! Now do not lust after or wonder if you should sell it to get the 1.4. The 1.7 is a fine piece of glass!

I've never lusted beyond 1.7's on any mount or lens before. I find f/2 to be plenty bright anything above that is a bonus. I'm about bang for the buck

That was my first Zeiss lens. If it's not good enough for you then you need to buy a Hasselblad and the 80mm or 100mm lens.

Back in the day I was told that the slower Zeiss lenses were actually slightly sharper than the faster ones (and a lot less money too).

Oh I'm sure it's good enough for me. 50mm primes have always been my favorite lenses. The way everyone raves about this 50mm Zeiss just can't be mass delusion . I particularly like its construction, the way each aperture setting clicks distinctly (as if on bearings), its size (diminutive), and ultra smooth focus ring. Obviously it's been designed (like the RX) with excellent feedback by photographers, and finished by engineers who where also photographers. Good stuff here.

First day out to the beach with the RX and 50mm f/1.7 Zeiss. Lovely combo and a pleasure to shoot with. Shot a roll and a half today (tri-x and provia), looking forward to seeing the first results. Much different than shooting with my Maxxum 9, slower and more deliberate process- and very satisfying (much like shooting with my R3A Bessa, without the focusing hassles).

Really like this camera so far.
