Jupiter 9 lens

Hello All,
Just recieved this lens today but do not have the viewfinder for this lens. When looking through the finder which is set up for the 50mm lens what should I expect? I know I am seeing a larger amount of info then the 85mm is seeing. Is there a way to know about what I am actually getting with the 85mm lens?

There is an 85mm finder for the J9. Some vendors sell the lens with it and some separately. Any 85mm finder will be fine though. Is the lens for Contax or LTM?

Couldn't you open the back, tape across the film plane with scotch tape to approximate a ground glass, and get a sense of coverage that way? Perhaps even mark the viewfinder?

(I realize this is a 2 mth old thread. But with a FED2 on it's way I have a new found interest in the RF forum.)

I agree with the above, if you can (unlikely with a bottom loading leica copy), open the back and see what the coverage is like and then make a mask for your viewfinder. An external viewfinder would be ideal though - look up the helios viewfinders, they have frames for 35/85/135(?) and were produced recently. Prices vary from reasonable to stupid. Failing that, a russian copy turret viewfinder is handy.

I own a Jupiter 9 85/2, an old russian copy of the Pre War Zeiss Sonnar 85/2. Mine is a last Soviet Era lens (1977, two years before the begin of the Afghanistan War). Actually work on Leica CL, as a companion of the Summicron C 40/2. Mine version, very luckily, is perfect, mecnanically and optically, and i love it very mutch. I own a KMZ turret finder, a very good external viewfinder. I suggest buy the KMZ turret finder.
