People usually fly their Leer Jets into Palm Springs. But if you are just a mere mortal sufferin' from this economy, Ontario Airport and then drive 1.5 hours wouldn't be so bad. Joshua is just a hop/skip/jump away from LA so anywhere near LA would be fine.
Thanks for letting us know early, I think I may be able to coordinate one of those dates with all my other family activities.

I am there. Living in L.A., I am out there fairly frequently. I have a friend with a house in Twentynine Palms, so that's even better!

We should all check out Giant Rock, the Integratron, Desert Christ Park, Grafitti Rockpile, and all get pissed at Pappy and Harriet's and the Palms! hahahahahhaha..wheeeee.....one-dollar PBRs, used cassette tapes, trucker hats, awful sunglasses, WWII books, Black Crows singers, fire, blood, and crazy back-mangling ex-SEAL medicine men....

......or I guess we could just check out the Park.

I've never been there, just moved to Phoenix, and I am there as well. I just was looking at maps yesterday thinking about a trip there.

I think I asked this last time, where do most stay, RV, camp, motel, in the truck, in the car, or on the ground? Feb. is going to be cold isn't it? I'm going to try like all get out to go this year, I would have to go over the pass at Shasta with an RV trailer, if the weather is bad I would just rent a car and drive. That's were the motel question comes in. I do have a Jeep TJ which goes anywhere but not good for camping.

Last year I stayed at a motel. But then I 'member that back in the day we were paying $4.00 a gallon for gas. Now I can't find gas a $4.00 a gallon! But then all seriousness aside, I may drive in every day from Los Angeles.

Siriusly Curt, I have an offroad vehicle that I have used in Joshua Tree. Would you be interested in offroading with your TJ to photograph some hard to get places?

Some camp...some motel it. Bring warm clothes and low laying tent, more warm clothes. We actually had real good weather last year until late Saturday (Sunday am) morning when the wind kicked up

Ok, you can count me in! Just got in last night from the trip up north. Matt, no more clamps on the pod! I upgraded it before the trip to the Redwoods. Yes, warm clothes, some food, coffee, film and drink. My only question is do I want to bring all three formats again?

Matt, after seeing Kerik's work at Yosemite this week I need to save the Walnut for the future 14x17 wet plate camera!!!! As they say release the hounds!!!!! Sorry a bit to much wine! Hell I need more.

And coffee too?? My camp coffee sucks but will trade beer for coffee. What camping area do you guys like? I have stayed in Jumbo Rock. At the last turn to the right in the campground there is a small site (5-6 sites) that big equipment can't get into...but 75 foot from areas where bigger equipment can park.

Jumbo Rocks is a good place. I'm a tent camper - or - "under the stars camper" if the weather is good - so I don't need much space.

I usually brew cowboy coffee.

Jim's new Joshua Tree Invention!

Jim just sent me an email explaining his new invention, which is in perfect harmony with his home built walnut cameras. He is about to produce his first COLD WEATHER JOSHUA TREE SLEEPING BAG. Out of American walnut of course.
The idea is to set the walnut on fire just before you crawl into bed at night. By the time Joshua Tree gets the coldest - just before sunrise - the bag will be wonderful - warm and toasty.

Ahh the smell of burning walnut in the morning!

Wonder if Jim got a patent yet???
