So in 1981, as a sophomore in high school, I took photography class. My teacher was Joseph Szabo. It recently came to light that he has a number of books, a short film, and stuff on permanent display at the NY MoMA. Yet, I've never seen him discussed or mentioned anywhere.

I personally really like his stuff, but I'm not sure what percentage is because I have a 'personal' relationship with him, it's photos of my life as a teenager, that I know a bunch of the people in the photos, or because he was just that good.

I'm interested in what you guys/gals think. Here's a link to his google search images.

He seems to have a fetish for smoking youth.
Overall, I can see your admiration of his work. I like it as well.
I don't like the pictures of kids smoking.
They strike me as almost pornographic without the sex

Yeah, I think 90% of us smoked in high school. We were allowed to smoke on school grounds, even right next to the doors. It was the 70's/80's, and smoking was still cool.

I read an interview with him, and when he started into photography seriously, his first assignment was 'love', I think he kept with that theme in a lot of his work, but more on the 'teenage love'.

loved the early ( & late 80s ) the music , the hairstyles , the girls ...did i mention the girls ,lol , thanks for sharing , the image " priscilla" as told by the photographer himself . Dead Link Removed , google - behind the shot with joseph szabo - monster childern

He has a Hungarian name (szabó means "tailor").

He's done a good job capturing the teenage look of that era.
