Got the Cone ink/cartridges for my Epson 1400 today (thanks again, Phillip - I think this makes more sense for me than the full blown CIS) A couple questions - my printer doesn't recognize the ICC profiles that Jon provides, can anyone give me a starting point for Moab Entrada bright matte and arista cotton rag natural matte (Epson presentation matte)? So far I've made some prints on the Moab paper, presentation matte setting. After some trial & error the advanced setting is -5 brightness, -15 cyan, +5 for yellow & magenta and the results are pretty good, but wondering if they could be better (ie gamma control is left at 1.8 and I'm not even sure what that does)

Obviously, any help would be much appreciated, even if it's a reccomendation for a good book about this.

Thanks,

Bob

Not sure what you mean. I see the icm for Moab bright white here: http://conecolor.com/icc/1400 ConeColor/CCK3-1400-MoabEntBrightW.icm.zip
You have to install this in the appropriate location depending on your operating system. Restart Photoshop and then you should be able to select Jon's profile in the print dialog.

OK, so it goes in photoshop and not directly to the printer. (duh!) I may have mentioned I'm still trying to figure out this stuff.

After I posted this I started getting blobs of ink on my prints which may be a common problem since it's listed in their FAQs so I'll clean it as they reccomend and hope that solves the problem. I still think this is a good way to go once these glitches are worked out (in spite of the somewhat messy filling process, but by the last two I had it down fairly well)

Thanks again Philip!

I have had occasional blobs of ink with MIS UT-14 and my 1400 printer too, turned out it was the cartridges that was not 100% fit into their "pockets". So I just took them out and put them back one and one firmly again, then I cleaned the inkstations (just carefully wiped off the excess ink) and ran a print on a thick matte A4 paper to clean up everything a bit and then it was all good again.
