I started visiting Coldingham village north of Berwick on the East coast of Scotland in the early 1980's-stayed at the Youth Hostel there ( now sadly closed). In the village was a small garage called Fishers Brae garage run by the Thompson family. Walking past the front I noticed some old prints and went inside and on the walls were photos taken by John Wood over 100 years ago- developed from glass plate negatives which they found in a Potting shed at the back of the garage. There were hundreds of these plates which had only very recently been found.
At that time you could order prints from some of the negs. Over the years the garage was demolished. Since then I managed to get 2 cd's of the "John Wood " collection -hundreds of these black and white images of the area. Images of mostly people but also views of Coldingham, Reston and Berwickshire.
Has anyone else heard of him ?
Just found this link to the collection:
