Again, thanks for posting. I just recently discovered him and I love it... from 35mm to LF, he's a complete photographer.

I like the subtle dig he gives in that clip (after seeing Robert Frank work) - "I'd never seen a real photographer work - I'd seen fashion photographers, but never a real photographer..."

Aside from the writing--and cartoons, of course--The New Yorker consistently features some of the best photography you'll see damned near anywhere in a magazine.

Thanks for the link! I watched 4 'episodes" yesterday -- the fellow using flash in peoples' faces was a bit of a jerk, IMO, and the results tended to show it.

You mean Bruce Gilden? I'm not too much a fan of his streetwork, but bless his chutzpah! He is unrepentant and comes off like a supreme jerk, but I wish I had even half of of his daring.

It's testament to the generosity of New Yorkers that he's not been found in a dumpster with a sych cord around his neck.

Yes, all the more power to him -- I certainly could not do what he does, so he has my respect there. But to me it is a bit like graffetti -- it is an art form, but it is so filled with ego, that it holds little value for me personally.

Agreed... never cared for his approach to street photography, still... it's interesting to hear him discuss it, and he's a member of Magnum, so someone likes it!! Anyone watch Mary Ellen Mark? She's all analog!!! Gotta love her...

Thanks for the link, that film also features Rebecca Lepkoff who is a regular visitor to VCP (Vermont Center for Photography).

She did a series of pictures, and a film I believe with her husband called Mean Streets (or something like that), on street kids in Seattle back in the 70's.
