Jobo CPP-2 water . . .

Does anybody know of a solution for managing water in the CPP-2 or other processors for the long term. The goal would be to minimize how often the water must be replaced and still prevent algae, mold, or sea monkeys for establishing themselves. Just curious.

Well, I could suggest a circulation pump with an analyser and a Digital Dosing pump to keep chlorine levels at exactly the right proportion to prevent algae and not corrode the element, but then you're spending more than the jobo is worth...

You can get an anti-microbial additive for humidifiers at your local Bed, Bath & Beyond or hardware store. I'd use it if you know you're going to have the Jobo set up and used daily for a period of time. If you're only using it say once a week, or less often, just dump the water at the end of the session.

Maybe I should put several plecostomus in the processor. I wonder if algae is a serious problem for some folks. I haven't experience this as a problem yet, as I'm just getting familiar with the unit.

I'll look into the ideas mentioned so far.

Just had a look in the catalogue, the cheapest Dosing pump that my company sells is about $1k, plus you'll need probes, controller, etc, don't expect too much change from $2k all up.

Cheapest thing is to just tip the water. Can't be more than 10-20L each time (maybe a CPP takes 30L?).
If you're in Australia or California and don't want to waste water (which you shouldn't anywhere), try going to a local Pool Supplies shop, get a basic $20 chlorine and pH manual testing kit, and maybe $10 worth of chemicals should last you a long time.

Algae is and will be a major problem, one of many other standing water related issues.
Draining the water is simple, and there is no reason not to do it at the end of every day.

I drain mine after every use, using town water as to tank water helps reduce the slime. I take mine out into the sun every couple months to let it dry right out. it seems to enjoy the outing

You could try benzalkonium chloride, which is used as anti-algal/fungal additive in pools. Also available in small quantities as Canesten laundry rinse; I suspect you'd need only a few drops.

They won't be endangered for much longer.

I can see now that dumping the water after each day's use won't be a problem. When I originally filled the processor I used a hose and assumed it took much more in the way of water. Now I'm filling it via a bucket and it appears to take only about 6 gallons, more or less. Hell, the rose bushes can drink that much water in just a few minutes. So, there will be no waste after all.

My darkroom waste water goes to a tank with a pump and a hose which I put in the garden to water whatever needs it. I dump my Jobo after each session, compared to the water that I use washing archival prints, it's nothing.

Even more of a problem - if they were to take up residence then you'd never be allowed to process again, to preserve the colony . . .

More seriously, every couple of days empty the water. You will probably have drips and drops of chemicals in there by then anyway.

I am currently dumping the water in my processor every day after I finish processing but I am thinking of putting some algae preventative in there so I can dump the water once per week.
The processor is a Jobo unit and I was wondering if something like this would be safe to use and not corrode the heating element nor make the tub brittle:

Unless I know I'm going to use my CPP-2 daily for awhile, like others I dump the water after each use. Simple to do and eliminates any issues.

The problem is that the bottles start getting slimy even at the end of day 1.
I am just trying to save some water.
