Hi,

I've just tried the JOBO CPE 2 for the first time and noticed that it is running too hot.
I've put it in a room at 13 C ambient, with the temperature knob turned to the lower possible point and the temperature measured around 23 to 24 C. Anyone had it? If so, how did you solve it?
And yes, I know about the trick of using an iced bottle to keep the temperature down, but that will be only a temporary solution and not a permanent one.

Regards,

Alberto

I have a CPE 2 as well and the temp dial is markedas low as 20C although the dial itself can be turned further down. However I suspect that this may not indicate that the internal thermostat allows a temperature below 20C. Certainly the literature states any temperature from 20-45C but makes no mention of any lower temperature. I think that its ability to maintain any temperature is very good but in my case the dial does not register the correct temperature that accurately i.e. if the dial is set at say 30C then the actual waterbath temperature may not be exactly 30C. You need to use the supplied Jobo thermometers to keep an accurate record of the temperature. If this is what you are doing and the thermometer reads a minimum of 23-24C then this might be a little strange

However if the minimum temp achievable is 23-24C then I'd simply develop at those temperatures and compensate with times. Ilford has a chart showing the compensation to be applied for temperatures other than 20C.

Unfortunately I cannot say what minimum temp my CPE2 can achieve as I have only used it for colour film and print development at 38 and 35C respectively.

If the temperature sensor is working, you should see the temperature lamp go on and off, and hear the relay when the motor is off, once the temperature is stable. It could be it is not tripping. The temperature sensor clips onto the heating element in the base. You do have to calibrate it, as the control scale is more of a guide. I run mine at 21C quite happily.
