Jobo Bottles, 1000 ml

I realize that the disparity between what is paid on Ebay vs. what is paid directly from a "store" has been discussed here before. However, it is certainly worth emphasizing that before bidding on Ebay it is worth checking prices for the same item on one of the standard sites for chemicals, film, and equipment. I noted that someone bid $66 dollars for 6 1000 cc plastic Jobo bottles, and won. The same item was available for almost $27 from B&H. It is hard for me to understand how someone can spend almsot $40 more for an item that is easily available from one of our standard sources. Absolutely nuts, and a crazy waste of money. One of our sponsors, or another standard source, might well be cheaper for many items. Simply a reminder to other friends here.

That's what happens when the bidding becomes a test of wills. Logic and reason fly out the window. Beating the other guy becomes more important than getting value for money. It's crazy, but I've seen it happen all too many times in live auctions. Ebay is no different.

The sad thing is when somebody lets emotion run wild, and buys camera gear. We all have to put up with it. Was I ripped off.... Whats a fair price.... Research before bidding. stick to your maximum price and don't go above.

No matter where you get them and how much you pay, the Jobo bottles rank at the top for storage of developers. They are quite dense and impermeable to oxygen and give developers a long lifetime. I highly recommend them.

I guess the economy is rebounding...A recent ebay auction for 8 zone vi drying screens closed at 223.50. These screens are still available from calumet for less than half that.

I thought the same think Rich...purchase the bottles from B&H, and sell them on Ebay for a meaningful gain-even after listing and commission fees! Nah...there cannot be another similar person on Ebay....right??:rolleyes:

I have used them for years for developer storage with superb results. No tint is needed. After all, is your darkroom illuminated all of the time? Is it getting bright sunlight? Most darkrooms are dark most of the time as is storage space for chemistry. And, dark is not needed for most chemistry.

FYI: 1 Liter Ilford Rapid Fixer bottles are the same size/shape as the 1 Liter Jobo bottles.

My Jobo bottles seemed worth what I paid for them retail when I needed a bunch in a hurry to start up a new E6 line.

For those in less of a hurry who have time to accumulate them, the Tetanol C41 chemistry also comes in bottles that, while they don't have the wide mouths, happen to be the perfect size for a CPP2 or CPA2.

Note also what "someone on eBay bid" and what constitutes a legitimate price actually paid are often quite different. There's a lot of BS that shows up on eBay. Shill bidding takes a number of forms (it's against policy, if they get caught, but rampant). One form is a non-legitimate sky high bid (ostensibly, from China or Nigeria or somewhere the seller won't accept bids, and which bid get cancelled) that makes another auction with a high Buy-It-Now price seem like a downright bargain.

I followed up on the lead regarding Hama bottles as a Jobo 1000 ml substitute. I think the original Jobo bottles are no longer available new and the used ones are pricey.

They are also pricey in US dollars but I tool the plunge and bought a dozen of them because shipping was a little better at that quantity. They arrived today. The are just like Jobo bottles. They fit perfectly in a CPP of TBE. The lids are wider which I think is better. I have not checked the lids for being spill-proof. So these are an excellent alternative to the Jobo 1000ml bottles and readily available. Thumbs up.

On the other forum, LFPF, someone has mentioned that the smaller Ilford bottles for dev and fixer may be a good fit also.
